No News is good news. Current general release of Travelog World for Windows is v1.11. It has been out for some time and there are no known major faults. There is a package of updated programs and reports for v1.11 and a list of the changes. Contact the helpdesk if you are using an earlier release and want to upgrade.

Some users have reported that Nortons Antivirus catches "twcostn1.exe" when it is being copied during the "Update New Programs From Server" procedure. This file, as distributed from our website, is not a virus or other malware and explicitly scanning that file with Nortons AV ought to report it as clean.

Latest version of Travelog 1.10 will be rolling out shortly. Inhouse testing is now complete and today we are taking it to a live site for beta testing.

Next step will be to undertake any necessary tweaking and then the selection of several more beta sites for further testing. All going well, we can begin cutting 1.10 upgrade CDs for general release.

You may be aware that Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, plus others at later dates, have or will shortly be reducing the commissions on INTERNATIONAL AIRFARES.

To update your systems you need to go into ACCOUNTING | CODES | CODE MAINTENANCE , which by default opens in the airline code field.
Enter or browse for your specific airline's code, then click MODIFY at the bottom of this window.
The third box is headed International Travel, modify its Commission Rate to the desired level and SAVE.

An issue arises with the Travelog installations on Windows XP (Service pack 2) and Windows 2003 platforms. During the installation you may receive the prompt "cstext32.ocx and cscmd32.ocx could not be registered". It also occurs after auto downloading the updates from Microsoft.

This has been traced to a bug in the service pack 2 release. It causes those 2 files to be outdated.

SOLUTION(s):

1. From a properly functioning workstation copy those 2 files from the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory, across your network, paste, and overwrite to the malfunctioning machines C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory. Then regsvr32.exe both these new files.
2. Number 1 above does not always work, plus this option is easier anyway. Click HERE to download a utility program named Hy-TekWindowsXPSP2Fix.exe (1.22MB). Save it to your Desktop and after it is downloaded, double click it from the Desktop and the utility will update both cstext32.ocx and cscmd32.ocx.

2nd, we have created a new report for the emailing of invoices, so it looks a little different from the standard printed invoice.
These have been added to all past updates and you can download them
here or from Travelog 1.09 Updates.

Went a little mad with the colours - any comments/suggestions/improvements/de-provements welcomed here.

New versions of Amadeus reservation interface - after their latest updates we discovered a discrepancy where importing an AIR file with no air segments (i.e. only hotel or car) would error with Object or With Block Variable not set. Also added slightly better handling of rental car rates (i.e. translates rates in foreign currency into NZD (or AUD,PGK, GBP, as appropriate) if possible. Will not work with every rental car company as each of them has their own format for the rate.

Your BSP RETURN now displays return dates on re-printed returns. These updates are available at Travelog 1.09 Updates.

Modification to the Reservation Interface available here for download now. This update is a fix for when the user has entered an age for a passenger, but has not entered a DOB, the age was not being sent to the reservation system.

Problems with the reservation interfaces are fixed in the travelog 1.09 Updates:

  • Sabre import did not import taxes if there are no stored fares (only ticketed fares) on the PNR
  • Amadeus import errored with "Object or with block variable not set" if importing a PNR with no air segments (e.g. only hotel and car)
Codes maintenance - email address field for principals now allows as many characters as the field in the database allows (usually 40) instead of the previously hard-coded 30 characters.

Welcome all to 2005. Lets all hope this global warming thingy really picks up so we can get some better weather.

A little house keeping. Several changes have been made to Travelog over the break, specifically the 3 CRS download interfaces (Amedaus, Galilio, & Sabre) and the BSP return (giving you the ability to preset your own billing cycles).

Please note this is only applicable to version 1.09 users.

Please close Travelog. Follow this link - Travelog 1.09 Updates - here or if unsure of your version refer to the Travelog Updates link at the left and then click on the 1.09 update. Instructions are available on the new page as well as below. Most of the tasks have been automated for your convenience, however we have retained some prompts for the user to respond to:

  • You will shortly receive a download window, select OPEN.
  • Once downloaded you will receive a prompt to Copy to Server. Please respond YES.
  • Next prompt is to Update the Database. Click OK.
  • To the upper right is a box with your company name displayed, please ensure this is correct?
  • Now enter your TWADMIN password - TRAVELOG.
  • Click on UPDATES and OK.

Once completed, 1 Field will have been updated and you may click OK and CLOSE to finish the initial installation.

The last task will be to - at each and every other workstation - click on START | PROGRAMS | TRAVELOG WORLD FOR WINDOWS | UPDATE NEW PROGRAMS FROM SERVER. You may now re-enter Travelog at each workstation upon completion of this task.

BSP RETURN
This step needs to be actioned at only ONE workstation. In the Travelog menu screen (the first, black one) click on ACCOUNTING | SYSTEM CONTROL | SYSTEM CONTROL MAINTENANCE, next select the Agency Settings Tab, then MODIFY at the bottom of the screen. Near the upper right you will find 3 BSP Billing Cycle options. It is your prerogative which period you'd like to run.

Some of you may have been encountering a problem in the Other Inclusions/foreign currency window of travel services. The client fee box was splitting into 2 partitions thus making it difficult to enter the amounts. This only affects travelog version 1.09.

A correction has been uploaded to our website. Please follow the link - Travelog Updates - here or in the drop down list to the left.

Travelog World Database Stability (updated)

Microsoft advises that a feature of Windows NT4/2000 and Novell file sharing (known as "Opportunistic Locking"), in combination with certain issues in Windows NT4/2000/XP workstations, increases the likelihood of corruption's of the Travelog World databases. IMACS Ltd strongly recommends that all sites using Windows NT4/2000 file servers and Windows NT4/2000/XP workstations, and experiencing frequent database corruption's, apply one of the two possible solutions to this problem: either disable oplocks on the file server, or apply a service pack or hotfix to all machines. We have had indications (unconfirmed) from some sites who have applied service pack 3 for Windows 2000, that it does not stop corruption's from occurring. We therefore recommend that, for reliable operation, clients disable opportunistic locking on the file server, whether or not the most recent service pack has been applied.

Both solutions are documented in Microsoft Knowledge-base article 303519 under the heading "Disable Opportunistic Locking".

The same article includes other suggestions for using a shared database file more reliably on networks. Hardware and network support engineers may like to review this article when they encounter database stability problems.
